On Monday (October 12th), two places that are on my list of favorite dessert places, Happy Hearts Mochi and the Little Oven, teamed up to host the Mochi Lover’s tweetup. The event sold out in a matter of days, and there was still a waiting list on the day of the event. Prior to the event, Renee took orders (selling them for $2.50 a piece). Come 7:00 Monday evening, there was a line of people waiting out side Little Oven eager to get their hands on their Happy Hearts treats.
The highlight of the evening (at least for me), was the Pumpkin-Haupia Mochi. This is a seasonal flavor at Happy Hearts, but I wouldn’t mind at all if it was available year round. The rich haupia went great with the spices in the pumpkin (which I assumed was pumpkin pie filling). This inspired me to play around with this combination the next time I get the chance. Add Renee’s excellent Chichi Dongo, and sheer bliss!
Leading up to the tweetup, a lot of use where thinking that people would just show up to pick up their mochi and leave. Turns out that we were wrong. Almost every one who showed stayed until the end. It was a great night of mochi and socializing. This tweetup was a huge success that left everyone wondering, when was the next tweetup.

Sure thing. If you want Mochi, let me know what you want, and I’ll put in an order with Renee for you. Check my Metromix Gallery posts to see if there is anyplace else you want to check out.
